Privacy Policy

You don’t need a Duskline account. Here’s how your library is saved, and when Duskline connects to Apple and OpenFreeMap. You can also find a summary in Settings, under “What leaves this device”.

Your library

Duskline saves your workout memories, routes, notes, attached photos and settings in its storage on your device. If you use iCloud Backup, your library is included in your device backup.

Duskline has no server of its own. Its developer doesn’t receive a copy of your library.

iCloud sync

Your library syncs through your own private iCloud to your devices. This includes saved routes, workout details, notes, attached photos and chapters. Sync is free and on by default. It can run in the background and catch up when a connection is available.

You can turn sync off in Duskline’s Settings, under Library. The change takes effect without restarting the app. New changes to your library won’t sync after that. Copies already in your iCloud stay there until you remove them.

Apple Watch notes

Duskline sends recent memory titles, dates and identifiers from your iPhone to its paired Apple Watch using Apple’s Watch Connectivity. Notes you explicitly save on your watch are stored there and transfer to your iPhone when connected. These transfers work even with iCloud sync off.

Saved notes remain on your watch after your iPhone receives them. An unfinished text draft is also saved locally on the watch. Notes received on iPhone, including ones you haven’t attached to a memory, become part of your library and follow its iCloud sync setting. Your library export includes watch notes received on the phone.

Dictation uses Apple’s system keyboard and dictation settings. Duskline doesn’t record audio. The watch companion doesn’t request Apple Health access or record workouts.

Map areas

Duskline gets its maps from OpenFreeMap, including maps used in widgets, shared images and printed travelogues. To load a map, it requests the area shown and its zoom level. These requests don’t include your notes, photos or saved routes.

The service also receives your IP address and technical details about the request. OpenFreeMap’s privacy policy says its regular logs are anonymized, contain no IP addresses and are kept indefinitely. During security incidents, it may log IP addresses for up to 30 days. It deletes those logs when the investigation ends or after 30 days, whichever comes first.

OpenFreeMap may also use Cloudflare to deliver maps. Cloudflare may process information about those requests.

The map tile cache is excluded from your device backup.

Place names

To suggest a place name, Duskline first looks at your nearby saved memories. If it can’t find a name there, it asks Apple using the new memory’s location. For imported memories missing place details, it groups nearby memories and sends Apple a location at the center of each group.

Duskline saves the place details and time zone it receives, including when no name is available. If a lookup can’t finish, it may try again while you use the app. You can always change the name or enter your own.

Weather

To add weather to a new memory or an imported workout without weather, Duskline asks Apple Weather using the workout’s location and a time range around its start. It saves the answer, including when no weather is available. If a lookup can’t finish, Duskline may try again while you use the app.

When Apple supplies weather, Duskline shows the Apple Weather mark and a link to Apple’s data sources.

Apple Health

With your permission, Duskline reads recorded workouts and routes. It doesn’t change anything in Health. The details saved in a memory become part of your library and sync through your own iCloud when sync is on. The weather request above uses the workout’s location and time.

You can change Duskline’s read permissions in Apple Health. Imports are limited to the workout and route history you share. Purchasing older-history import doesn’t change those permissions.

Photos and location

Photos you attach are copied into Duskline’s storage and become part of your library. Attached photos sync through your own iCloud when sync is on. With your permission, Duskline can look for photos taken during a workout by matching their times on your device.

Location access lets Duskline place a memory you add by hand or center the map on your location. Place-name and weather requests use a coordinate as described above. You can use Duskline without photo or location access and change these permissions in your device’s Settings.

Files and sharing

Duskline reads a GPX route file only after you choose it in Files, and parses it on your device. Workouts you add from that file become part of your library. They follow the same sync, place-name and weather behavior described above.

You can export your library as a portable archive or make images, videos and PDFs to share. These files are made on your device and handed to the system share sheet. You choose where they go. Maps in shared files may request tiles as described above.

The free library archive includes your memories as JSON, routes as GPX and photos as image files, so you can read them without Duskline.

No Duskline analytics

Duskline has no analytics, crash reporting or advertising. It doesn’t track you across apps or websites. Your library is shared through your own iCloud, with your paired Apple Watch as described above, or when you choose to export or share a copy. Duskline’s developer doesn’t receive it. Map requests and the delivery provider’s security processing are described above.

This website uses self-hosted fonts and images, with no analytics or third-party embeds.

Purchases

Duskline is free to use, with one optional purchase handled by Apple through the App Store. Duskline doesn’t receive your payment details. Restoring a purchase checks your entitlement with Apple.

Deleting your data

You can delete a memory in Duskline. When sync is on, that deletion can also sync to your other devices. Deleting a memory on iPhone doesn’t remove the saved note from your watch. Saved notes on the watch currently have no individual edit or delete controls.

Deleting the app removes its library from that device. It doesn’t remove copies already in your iCloud sync database or device backups. You can manage Duskline’s iCloud data and device backups in your iCloud settings.

Children

These privacy practices apply to everyone who uses Duskline, regardless of age.

Changes to this policy

When Duskline’s privacy practices change, this page and the information in the app will be updated. The date at the top shows when this policy was last revised.
